Notes About The Poem

You are or were always on my mind Poetry Contest

You Will always be on my Mind

She lay serenely on the cold slab
Elegantly dressed in white,
A secret smile embossed upon her lips
That even death could ne'er erase.
I looked at her for quite some time.

My memories dwelt for a time long
Of by-gone days when we were young,
Days fully lived and justly savoured,
Days of exciting, enticing emotions,
Revisited and recaptured mostly in my past.

Alas, she's gone forever now,
The finite sands of time ran out,
As spring and summer always do.
Life was spilled now and hope died,
Still no dreary dirge for me,
But rather squander time in living dreams
So I often indulge in my autumn days,
You will always be on my mind.

The memories keep us stable sometimes. It's okay to remember the good and bad times we've spent with our loved ones. It's always important to spend time with them whilst they are alive and create a lot that would see us through the phase when death comes. It's never easy. I hope the good memories keep you chuckling Victor. She's in a better place. Lost my grandad a week ago and I've had to soak my pillows every night, but this time, I'm using writing as therapy. Cheers, Love stands.

You loved her, see her in death, in life, with love…still no dreary dirge, but a great tribute to your lovely wife. I oft see in my mind, my mom on her death bed, but also in her various stages of life. The early mom…the one in later years…Blessings, dear Victor. My heart is touched by your thoughts.

Death is not easy to handle when someone close dies. I have not had to deal with the death of a spouse though and I know that would be even harder. I do know it takes times to heal the emotions and the memories will always be there. They pop up when not expected. A very good write for the contest and also to help keep the memory alive. Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. Sara K

Dear Victor, Your heartfelt emotions captures the bittersweet emotions of mourning a lost love with such elegant verse. The serene imagery contrasted with the raw feelings of memories revisited packs an emotional punch. Thank you for sharing this deeply moving, exquisitely crafted piece - it's a testament to your immense poetic talent. - Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel
