You Walked Away

Your friendship
Afforded me comfort
You were there for me

I reached out
You never failed to answer
You were there for me

I spoke to you
With not the fear of judgment
You were there for me

You listened quietly
With ears open to my words
You were there for me

I hid nothing
And lifted up every veil
You were there for me

You held my hand
That alone said much
You were there for me

Your hand on my shoulder
Brought me solace
You were there for me

When you asked only
For the friendship that we shared
You were there for me

Our lives had their separate ways
Promises made to others
You were there for me

Many look so far
Without so great a find
You were there for me

I told you if you called
I would always answer
I was there for you

A treasure I had found
I thank the heavens
You were there for me.

We shared our heads
But not our beds
That was rich enough

‘Til one day you asked for
More than was right to give
You could not stay

You walked away…

Beautifully written, Sue. Sad...but, I know that this sort of thing happens when the hedges are too low. Thank you for sharing your heart. CTB

You told this story with utter simplicity, allowing the anguish and loss at the end to have a stunning impact. Fantastic writing. Congrats on your win.
