You Say
You say i am loved
When i feel worthless and unlovable
You say i'm beautiful, without flaw or blemish
When i’m insecure about every inch of myself
From the belly folds to thick thighs, stretch marks tattooed all over me,
My chubby cheeks, my asymmetrical face
You say I am courageous, that I could trample on snakes
When i feel weak, fragile and vulnerable
You say I am a masterpiece
When i feel irrevocably worthless
When i say, “i can’t do this anymore”,
You remind me i can do all things through you
From the mundane tasks like doing dishes
To impossible dreams: a published author, doctor
Business woman, philanthropist
In this era where nonchalance is cool,
You gave me a soft heart
That still strives to be kind, caring and loving
Every. Single. Day.
I fall, I fail, I cry, I scream
But you never let me fully give up
I keep moving toward my purpose
Whether I'm flying, running, walking or crawling
There’s a fire in my heart
This unexplainable burn
This fiery passion to be the best i can possibly be
And then a little more
When I say I’ve messed up too much
You say I am forgiven.
It’s an undying love you have for me
To see all my flaws, insecurities and sins
And still choose to carry the cross for me
A simple sinner,
That runs headfirst into her sin
Like a dog running back to its vomit…
Yet you welcome me with open arms,
Loving me unconditionally whether i reciprocate this love or not
And if there's distance between us
It’s not because you moved.
You remain at the table- waiting.
It makes me want to cry
Knowing I fled from your loving presence
To chase temporary pleasure
While you stayed with outstretched hands
Welcoming me back
No matter how far I've strayed
When I say I am lonely
You say you will never leave me nor forsake me
How sweet is your mercy
To have a shoulder to cry on
Is the greatest blessing
To my wretched, weary soul.
