You never felt

You never felt the Loneliness—
that followed after Me—
As distant Stars keep quiet Watch
above a silent Sea—
I thought that you would wander back—
as Moon returns to Night—
I kept the Door of Waiting wide—
till Hope forgot its Light—

You never felt the Loneliness—
that Absence builds in Air—
The Cactus learns no Prayer for Rain—
because it blooms in Care—
I thought that Love—a River—
remembers still the Sea—
But Rivers too—may lose their Way—
and wander endlessly—
