~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You said it was my fault And I said you were to blame You said this love, you’d halt I said, this is such a shame You said I deserved the hurt I said you weren’t worth the pain You said I’d need to convert But I said your bitterness was plain You said it was never your mistake Yet, I felt like it was your doing You said I was just a crazy flake I said you weren’t worthy of pursuing You said I was nothing but irate And I said you had broken my heart You said, my love had turned to hate But I knew you were surely no sweetheart You said more than I can justify I said more than I should have said Finally, the time came when you’d say goodbye And I would look back to a love now dead The Truth, though, the truth would reveal How both of us had given into selfish ways We’d realize, only too late, how it would feel The loneliness, the heartbreak, the dark days The truth would soon remember the love we shared How we lost more than just another friend We lost the beautiful joy of someone who truly cared And, it was the truth that grieved the most, in the end.
