You know me

You know me
 but you don't recognize me
now that I am unchained.
Take a closer look,
that's right,
 look me in the eye.
Do you recognize me now?
I'm the woman you used to
use and abuse.
The one you confused
and kept in a daze
 with your chauvinistic ways,
controlling me
 like I was your possession.
That's why
you don't recognize me,
 because today
my head is held high, not low.
I'm not dying on the inside,
my countenance I all aglow.
I am no longer compliant.
I'm outspoken and defiant.
I've found my balance,
and how to bring out the best
in me, and more importantly,
how to love me.
That's why
you don't recognize me,
 because I'm a new creation,
under the protection
 of a higher power,
who taught me to walk
 in no man's shadow,
to have no fear,
 because I am empowered,
independent,
and a phenomenal woman.
See, you know me,
but you don't recognize me,
now that I have.... evolved.
