You Know, He Was In That Film
Watching a film I see a face I recognise
But cannot remember his name, which is no surprise.
I ask my wife ‘hey who is this guy, what’s his name?
Before we both go back and forth, playing this peculiar game.
‘It’s erm, what’s his face, he was in that legal thriller’
‘No’ I reply ‘he’s in that other film, where he’s the killer?
Now what’s it called? It’s on the tip of my tongue!
‘Oh yeah I remember the film’ she said ‘it had that famous song!’
‘Now what’s the song called?’ she asked ‘it’s a bit like McArthur Park’
‘What Disco Inferno?’ I replied, clearly off the mark
‘No, not Disco Inferno, it’s by that band who sang in that movie?
‘Give me a clue’ I ask ‘is it a sad song, upbeat or groovy?’
‘A sad song’ she replied ‘with the lead singer who’s bald!’
‘The drummers called Keith somebody or other’ she recalled!
‘Okay are we talking the sixties or seventies’ I asked
Clearly desperate for a clue that might get the drummer’s identity unmasked!
‘You know the band’ she said ‘I’m sure they played at Live Aid!
But the identity of the band was still a mystery, I’m afraid!
‘Jack Palance!’ I shout ‘Jack Palance, that’s the guys name!
And with that, I draw a close to this peculiar game!
