Anacreontic verse is an Ancient Greek lyrical form, consisting of 20- to 30-line poems with three to five syllables per line. Developed by 6th century B.C. poet Anacreon. A form that emerged during the height of the dramatic, musical, artistic, and poetic culture. The poems revolved around themes of love, infatuation, revelry, festivals, and observations of everyday life.

“I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think.” Rumi Oh my love, you will always sit as the queen to my throne of romance, I'll be the ink pouring upon your satin canvas and If I should ever expire, then kiss me back to life - in a portrait of unknown metaphors. My precious sweetheart, ignore those who judge, allow your passion to compose in tones free from opinion, like humming birds, singing without fear about who hears the message of their hearts, so sing your soul's secrets out loud and when your lips tire, I'll gift you my words, my lyrics, my meter, rhymes and syllables. I care not for prose, because for me - you are poetry!

"I care not for prose, because for me - you are poetry!" Impeccable one indeed! For poets, it's always the one who's the poetry to make them reluctant to writing a prose...

These are my favorite: "If I should ever expire, then kiss me back to life - in a portrait of unknown metaphors." and... "allow your passion to compose in tones free from opinion, like humming birds, singing without fear about who hears the message of their hearts" But I loved the entire poem.

So much romance in the air lately. This is truly a breathtaking love poem. This form is interesting. A lot like stream of consciousness writing except for the control of syllable counting. Love it. Must try this form. SuZ

I remembered something after reading this poem - and wanted to let you know. Probably you are aware, my home-language is not English, but Bengali, a regional language from Eastern India. Five years ago, I wrote a poem in that language - the first line is “Are you Poetry?”

Silent One, your love poem thrums with the vibrant music of Rumi's spirit. You crown your beloved queen, an ink-kissed masterpiece on a satin canvas. Your whispers of devotion echo the hummingbirds' fearless song, urging her to unleash her soul's secrets. The promise to gift your very words when hers wane is a testament to love's boundless melody. This isn't mere prose, it's sculpted art from unspoken metaphors, a portrait of adoration painted in breath and rhythm. I love it! -Daniel

Like a nightingale pouring out its heart in sweet songs, you bare your heart laden with love. Your musing here has the touch of a serenade and the flavor of deep romance. "When your lips tire, I'll gift you my words, my lyrics, my meter, rhymes and syllables..... ! What more can a poet give to his beloved! This is so mellifluous and spontaneously flowing.

Wishing to be a source of light for the beloved and telling her to soar higher above those judgemental realms that don't recognise the purity of her heart. And that ending is just fabulous, stunningly crafted, as always, a FAV :)

This is so beautiful and romantic. You do ancreontics so well, i always love a romantic poem that has a sincere voice and depth that readers can feel and connect to. What more can one gift, and present to their precious sweetheart and beloved besides their rhymes and meter and syllables. Which is something so dear and close to their heart … that is truly a gift. I love how you’ve concluded this with “ you are poetry” awwn! Something i always feel too that some are poetry for us. Ah to be throned
