You Are My Sonshine

Inspired by Carrie Richard’s poem “Unlatched”

YOU ARE MY SONSHINE

Our song together,
just you and me

“You are my sunshine…”

Our song belongs,
only to us

And how I used to love
to pull you on my lap,
even catching
the last few times,
before you left
for college…

A son belongs
to his mom
for so short a time

Yet how wonderful
to see your success
in your job
with your wife
and kids

You are still my sunshine,
my only sunshine

a title belonging
to an only son
who used to call his mom
his princess
and heave his empty wallet
out of his pocket

“Get whatever you want, Mom”

Memories so strong
that hold open doors
for the one woman in his life
a lifetime ago
with a handsome bow
tied on a moonlight cradle

Now I cradle the phone to my ear
with bended heart
listening

to the grownup man...
Oh how proud I am.

Dear Kim,....First of all, I am so thankful that you have stopped some of my poems, and so appreciate your sweet and thoughtful comments. We seem to be of like-minds, with such loving and sentimental ties to our children.Your poem is an example of a special kind of love that binds you with your son. And the title also reflects my life as well. "You Are My Sunshine" is rather like our family anthem around here. A song we, as a family, have always sung around many campfires thru the years. Thank you, and thank you for your support. I often have felt forgotten since I've taken a break from PS. :) xox

A heartfelt poem of love and memories ---uniquely expressed as only a mother can! I paused and smiled reading "Get whatever you want, Mom"!!

He was so cute! Just having a wallet made him feel rich! It’s those moments that make life rich!
