Yesteryear

It wasn’t much to look at, just a two up two down house,
With a cellar below for storing coal and firewood.
That was where I laid my head for ten years or more
And I’d go back there tomorrow if I could.

No bathroom, no kitchen, just a stone sink and cold tap,
And Friday nights tin bath in front of a cosy coal fire.
Earth toilets in the backyard, just a wood seat on a bucket
And yesterday’s newspaper hanging on a wire.

Primitive you’d say to this and I would answer “Yes”
But we had something then that is missing now.
Love and care for others we were taught those days
And we must try and bring them back somehow.

For our time is short the reasons are clear
We must bring back the love of yesteryear.

When I was a kid we lived on a farm. It was the only place I was sad to leave. I like how you expressed this piece. Welcome to the soup.

Hi Imran. Enjoyed your poem. Yes, I remember it being like that. The standard of living was not great but the quality was good. Now, things have reversed. We gain some things; we lose some things. Tony

Thank you sir. Yes, now we have all ????????? ? We can see the progress of world and everything has been changed. But we lost too much as well. I think we lost innocence. Everyone seems clever. I remember our green fields, our house there and our cattle as well...
