Yesterdays Joy

Out in the country I once did live Were the green grass grows and animals thrive The work there is rough but you feel alive With air that's so fresh that it wakes your soul The Water's so crisp that a sip will make one whole Out in the country I once did live With mother and dad and siblings too Three acres there was to keep us from being blue With goats, sheep, chicken and a whole lot more This country life was never a bore Out in the country I once did live There was a garden so very big and wide That when it would grow so much would abide Corn, potatoes, beets and onions were just a start Carrots, squash, rhubarb and tomatoes with more still to chart It was the envy of all those around Out in the country I once did live Where it flowed with milk and honey I do declare There was milk from the goats with meat to spare The bees gave us honey and was good for crops Now this is only a sample of what I once did When out in the country I once did live

:) Pleasant memories, indeed. :) The country life must be sweet. It brought back memories of my childhood days. Not that there was much in common, but we lived on a big compound with lots of fruit trees, and we were carefree. Lovely write.

Your poem took me on a journey back to childhood. Country living, as you say, is never boring. It is less restricting than town or city, even though the work is hard. Wide, open spaces offers freedom, and hard work builds character. Thanks for painting this picture. Great imagery!
