Yesterday
As the years go by and we find ourselves turning old and grey
We sometimes return to that special place called yesterday
When the chill of the wind signals that festive time of year
When carols can be heard and people speak of good cheer
We strain to recall family and those joyous times from the past
When as innocent children we sensed a magic spell about to be cast
One can't really describe that feeling that came with the holiday season
Visions of St Nick flashing though the sky on his Christmas time mission
Mother cooking in the kitchen with the smell of rich food everywhere
Siblings romping through the hallways as if they had nary a care
Presents stacked beneath the tree giving rise to great anticipation
Signaling Christmas days coming and a grand family celebration
Although these are only memories and loved ones have long passed from the scene
There are fleeting moments when aging minds swear tis more than a dream
It lasts only for seconds but we suddenly get that certain feeling inside
And that child we once were is suddenly very much alive
