Jack Ellison Poet Quatrain

Ye Ole Grammy Phone

Crank up ye ole grammy phone
Play me some of those good old tunes
Like “Happy Days Are Here Again!”
“By The Light Of The Silvery Moon”

Remember ditties from way back when
You could actually decipher the words
Hope young people aren't reading this
They'll be thinking I'm quite a nerd

Songs from the World War Two years
Billy Holiday's “My Old Flame”
Or “White Christmas” by Der Bingle
The Duke's “Take The 'A' Train”

You could call it Nostalgia One-O-One
Wishing those times were still here
Wanting it to be forever summer
Days of soda, pretzels and beer!

One day soon even the beloved songs of my 70's will be considered VERY old like these. hahaha. maybe they already are and that makes this group ancient. Tim Ryerson January 2, 2013 at 9:21 AM I'm hearing you Jack!...Drive-in movies and drive-ins where they actually came out and took your order!...10 cent hot dogs, those neat soda boxes where you put in your dime and then slid your drinks out, songs that actually had a tune...you could go out on five bucks... We now just have it different, I guess. But it is still the good old time. It's kind of funny that with different periods, there are different feelings, settings, moods attached to it. Awesome write.
