Notes About The Poem

Ellan Vannin is the Manx name for the Isle of Man

The song was recorded by Robin Gibb who retained a house on the Island up until his death in 2012. All of the Bee Gees were born on our Island

Xanadu

Wild heather
                and golden gorse
                                        adorns
                                              emerald hills

                                                                           I stroll silently
                                                                   enjoying
                                                     songbirds
                                                                chirruping
                                                such sweet
                                                              melodies

           Here I’ve found
                                   my own paradise
                                                       surrounded by nature
                                                                       on
                                                                           my Isle in the sea

So lovely Jan. You put me in the picture to walk with you in "wild heather," "golden gorse" and "emerald hills." I love that you see your home as "Xanadu." And celebrate it as such. Congratulations!

It sounds like a beautiful place to live, Jan. I did not know that the Gibbs were born there. I know a couple of them had homes on Miami Beach, too...I have to tell you that I had the biggest crush on Andy when I was a little girl. I still listen to his songs sometimes. Makes me feel like I'm seven again :) Hugs and blessings, Rhonda

Your video is spoilt by, "are mum and dad" rather than "our" mum and dad, but that does not distract from your poem! They may be IOM, but Australia and Australians inspired them! Aloha! Rico

What a wonderful, heartfelt love letter to your paradise island. It was sweet to listen to Robin sing of it as I read, very touching. Does the IOM have any sort of Bee Gees museum or birthplace, or site where Maurice lost his first tooth? Hugs ~ John
