Notes About The Poem

Wrinkles and Twinkles

Old guys
don’t look cool in jeans
with frayed fabric
and faded seams

So I’ve developed
my own unique style
with colourful clothing
accessorized with a smile

For this old guy
a stylish cap is my choice
I have a twinkle in my eye
and a kind gentle voice

It’s true I don’t wear
a younger man’s clothes
It would make me look silly
and I’m not one to pose

So no fashion from Paris
Italy or France
But if you play me some music
I’ll ask you to dance

So even though Old Guys
don’t look cool in jeans
We’re cool in our own way
still living our dreams

Wrinkles and twinkles
A smile and a wink
Colourful clothes with a cap
happy to join you for a drink.

Oh how cute. My husband has long curly hair, very young acting, young-looking. Your poem in so many ways describes him at 64. He recently bought a pair of jeans with the rips in them. I don't have the heart to tell him he is a little too mature for them. A former disc jockey he loves to dance, although may quietly wince as his shoulder begins to pinch. We both agree he can wear a baseball cap quite well over that long curly hair :) your poem gave me a chuckle.

You seem pretty cool in my book. Authenticity is what’s hip, not the attire ;) Does kind of remind me of a person I used to know (before he passed away). An older guy that always wore tie-die shirts and a fedora. Collected Star Wars paraphernalia and had a taste for painting and every imaginable kind of movie. A little quirky in appearance, but his genuineness always shone through.

Great write. Old in age but young at heart. Those who are young at heart never age and are favourite of grandchildren.

"Accessorized with a smile" --- I love it. A smile and kindness are what make a person irresistibly attractive. I enjoyed the playful feel of your poem.

Man in black suit my style, Richard..The poetry say much about growing old, yet my jeans still hang in the wardrobe, would fit my son and his son..And yes no matter where in the world i live, i still wear my cloth cap being a Yorkshireman. As always love to read your poems which are always thought provoking, and very interesting. All the best for 2021.

A jolly write Richard - the same goes for women, some try to dress like their daughters and wow - how awful. My husband likes caps also. He has a special one for braaing (barbecuing) at night as it has a hidden light in the peak of his cap, he just loves that cap. I really enjoyed this poem. Keep safe, hugs and blessings. Jennifer.

As in music, literature, visual arts, not to mention poetry, you can’t go wrong in fashion with classsics. I concur that wearing jeans with holes and the like, make me look like a down and out bum. From an even older geezer.

If I were a gal, I'd be on the next plane to meet Mr. Fashionably Stylish -- and I wouldn't be wearing jeans! I love this write, Richard. A FAVE for me! ~ Sylishly Unstylish

G’day Richard … don’t throw out clothes that you wore in the sixties. The wheel keeps turning, however, the young’uns will tell you ‘dress for your age Mate’ - very much enjoyed Richard - Lindsay

well, I like old guys in weather-torn denims...they go leg in leg! but skinny jeans are an entirely different story lol...meanwhile, when you say a patterned cap, I am picturing clownish outfits I've seen golfers wear! But I agree with the last stanza...be wearing my colors for a twinkly drink! Happy 2021! :)

A smile is the perfect accessory for any clothing, Richard. You are only as old as you feel and you certainly seem young to an old lady like me. Beautiful poem! Hugs, carolyn
