World War - Benita Margaronis

RED DOOR (collaboration)

by~ Benita Margaronis

War Of The World Death, pain, blood,
Shell-shocked men, suffering and darkness.
It's all they ever saw.
Soldiers thinking about their lives.
Rotting flesh and the whimper of dying men with their bodies half blown off.
Other soldiers shooting them in the head to end their pain.
The shattering sound of an explosive destroying life and more ground.
Blood and body parts spray through the air and spread throughout the ground.
Total emptiness and nothingness.
Mounds and mounds of biting bodies and horses.
Scattered planes, tanks, trucks and others.
Burning guns and oil.
Because the world went to war so much was lost for so little gain.
The war of the world shall never be forgotten.

by~ Poet Destroyer

War of the world Sacrifice.
Doors tainted red, tragedies never forgotten.
Mediterranean swept the soul of combatants without a word to say.
A war so defiant both sides lost more than humanity to each other.
Prisoners, white flag surrendering, shot in the head with no remorse.
Brave soldiers wiping off the blood of their face like a tear.
Men in fetal positions crying hard like the day they were born for*mom-MA.
Soldiers pocket full of notes and dog-tags for a loved one.
Achievements that followed death without a mother's hand to hold.
Chaotic news and telegrams traveled without a moment to spare.
A flag brought to the door painted black.
Mothers falling to the floor broken hearted.
Because no one can mend the courage one gave to us today.
The war of the world shall never be forgotten.

A brutally honest depiction of war, this collab poem is. Great work, PD and Benita. Very powerful write. So sad that so many lives were lost ... for what, some land or resources. Stupid and barbaric. Love the poem though. Love and peace to you.

I so love this poem and agree 1000% that war is not the way and the loss outnumbers the gain!!To think that after all these years we would learn from this but it is not we the people who cause these wars but the minority of power hungry idiots who want nothing but human slaves and pets for their own amusement!!!CHEERS to you and your partner Benita Margaronis for this excellent piece of work!!!

Quite a vibrant painting of the horrors of war, well done to both of you. It is sad, but indeed, their sacrifice shall never be forgotten.

This collaboration touches on every horrible scene of every WW2 movie I have ever seen, from Full Metal Jacket to Saving Private Ryan. I don't have a son in the military but knowing that thousands of mothers have received the horrible news of a son's death and "falling to the floor brokenhearted" is about as touching a line as it gets. Thanks for this detailed and gutwrenching write. Both of ya! Gwendolen

as poets we have all done poems about war and it can be very difficult to get right, to portray the correct image, and not gloryify war itself. I think this achieves it. David
