World of Walls
Mother, mother, tell me please
the way it used to be
When people all around the world lived in harmony
Tell me how they looked and dressed
were they short or tall
Tell me of the fun you had
before they built the wall
Do you think your friend’s the same as in the photograph
The faded one you carry
where you and she both laugh
Did the children play our games
when we were still all friends
Could there not have been a way for all to make amends
Was their music much like ours can you recall a tune
And how you danced together
beneath the giant moon
Tell me how they cooked their foods
about the spices used
Tell me of the taste you loved when all the flavors fused
And how about their languages
the sounds that their words made
Do you still remember or did they sadly fade
Fear and anger built the walls
of massive steel and stone
They said we would be better, divided and alone
But now there’s a consensus
that is spreading through the land
That all the people, everywhere are going to take a stand
So mother please, do not be sad
the talk around the town
From all the people, everywhere
the walls are coming down
