Working In the Hospice

To Work In A Hospice Just Be There and Care. Bring yourself, It's all that you have and it's real, Everyone needs to be understood and to feel. Treat others in the way you want to be, Hear what's unspoken, listen for the key. Encourage folk to say what they need, Remember your limits , try not to exceed. Every time you give, someone receives. Allow yourself feelings, You are not perfect, Never share outside except with the staff elect, Dying is a lonely journey, let your care be your gift. Care and love, let yours show, Anxieties of your own, just let the staff know. Recall happy memories, folk like that a lot, Empathy's good but sympathy's not. A way to remember the rules of engagement in The Hospice. © Dave Timperley. October 30th 2014

Difficult subject matter and well handled. Your poems offer variety and content. Many poets have difficulty changing themes and capturing engaging moments in life. You have succeeded well. Good Read.

Thank-you for sharing -- I really liked the last line Empathy Not Sympathy. I have experienced hospice both with family and friends. It's an incredible service of love. All the best.

Dave, you hit close with this poem, my wife works as a home health and hospice nurse. She is very special to all who know her, someday I want to write a poem of her but as yet I don't have the words. When they come, you will know her in the poem. Thanks for sharing your wisdom on hospice!

Hi again Dan, my Frances was a home help mainly for the elderly as her own business. I worked, along side my full time job, part time in A Drug Rehab Unit, so we both have knowledge and experience to share. Many thanks for your kind comments. God Bless. D.

My dad came out of Hospice last week Dave - it is the most amazing place and he knows one day he will be going in there and never coming out and he is at peace with this. My heart goes out to the 'angels' who work their so tirelessly making life comfortable for those who may be nearing the end of their life - into fave for me it means the world to me this poem:-) Hugs Jan xxx

Just knowing it has helped is more than enough for me Jan. It is something that Fran & I hold very dear. We will be working at our new Archangel Michael Hospice here in Mesa Chorio, Paphos as soon as the Government allows us to open the doors. Our prayers for you and your Dad. God Bless. D.
