Working For His Future
He sits alone at a battered desk,
face vacant of expression,
concentrating so hard.
This opportunity is precious to him
he has been given the chance to learn,
to be educated ..... to being fed.
Many children are helped this way
Given the first step to a useful life.
Having walked miles daily to school
no food before they leave
Knowing hot food awaits them.
parents are dirt poor, live by begging,
scavenging on hillsides of debris.
Not this lad..... He has been given a chance
A chance to follow a dream
A dream to become a doctor
He will succeed ..... he has the will,
clutching his dream he smiles,
returning to his studies
absorbing the written word .... excluding all other.
