Words, Words, Words

Words, Words, Words

There are many I contain
always jumping in my brain
sometimes driving me insane.
There are some I can't restrain
and yet ones I must refrain.
Some are words that I disdain,
when there hateful and cause pain.
I never could explain
why there are some for which I strain
and never do obtain
while others fall from me like rain.
Those, I weave into a chain.
Some are humble, some are plain
some are eloquent or vain.
Of these words that I contain
quite a few I've learned to train
manage and maintain
and yet some I can't sustain.
They are my existence' bane.
But I really can't complain
and I hope they do remain
all these words that I contain
always jumping in my brain
for without them I would wane.
I would lose more than I gain
left with nothing to attain.

Wow! Coming up with all these words that rhyme had to be quite a challenge. Nice reflection on writing. Thank you for your kind words regarding my poem. Have a wondeful New Year! Karen

Very cleverly sustained '...ain' rhyming! As poets, words are our medium as you so eloquently express here... Well done Robin! Best wishes, Keith
