Wool- Not For Contest

I saw them shyly standing naked in the field
Embarrassed that their wool they had to yield
I wondered, who was the first to shear a sheep?
And then to make a coat that they could keep?
On to other things, the sheep I soon forgot
Until the next time a wooly thing I bought
I went to find myself a hand knit woolen shawl
Then the poor sheep in the field I did recall
Aw well, I thought, another coat they’d soon grow
And happily, left the store with my new shawl in tow…

Obviously not for contest, but it made me have some funny
thoughts about the sheep I see in the spring after shearing.

It is good that they shear them in the spring so that they can get back that wonderful coat to protect them for the winter..That is a thought about who thought of getting the wool from them for the first time and who figured out the spinning wheel, etc..Thanks for the second visit..Sara
