Wonder

my noisy head falls still on a dark sky night
naked eyes tuning to the star filled myriad
the glow of the galactic centre

feel the measure

imagine the massive beast lurking there
benign, gargantuan, greedy, sometimes gobbling
those arms spiralling
one hundred thousand light years across

then ponder the cosmos, immensity cubity-cubed

then ponder us, clinging on board

gathering in light to be so enlightened
peering down to the quantum realm
then up through the microwave fog
at the cosmic dawn

scale the noughts, each way stretching
we appear to be near the centre of things
is this privileged viewing?
or just the point where seeing can see?

time to go to bed and dream!
