Woman's Best Friend

Kittens, birds, rabbits, ferrets and an occasional frog All were quite welcome and had their part But nothing takes the place of a dog Since I was little I never went long Without having a dog in my home For no matter whatever you could say of the rest With a dog you will never go wrong A German Shepherd named Rocky Was a favorite pet of mine I owned him during a grievous time But this dog seemed always to know His eyes would gaze so deep in my soul And his head on my knee made me whole Never in all my life had I lived alone And sometimes there would be fear But I was always reassured to know I was safe whenever Rocky was near My youngest would lay on his belly And they’d fall asleep in the sun I knew the first time he laid eyes on this dog A new love affair had begun What can you say when a dog Still has so much of your heart It matters not he’s been gone for so long My love for him will never depart

Laurie, this is so touchng. Isn't it something how they become part of our family There is something very special about a relationship with dogs. I had one (or more) most of my life, too. I have three labs now. Big pain in the buts sometime but I wouldn't trade them for the world. Great write, Laurie. A lovely tribute to Rocky. Love and hugs, Robin

Great writing. Yep0! dogs are a man and womans best friend.. I use have two pet ferrets, a honey colored one, my oldest brother had caught in his back yard, and a rare blackfoot one. I got the blackfoot from a friend at Churchill Downs. I ended up turning them both loose way out in the country on a friends big farm in Kentucky. Thanks for your comments on my valentine poem.. I was just thinking of one for a valentine song contest to send to Paramount Group in Nashville. Lawrence in Lou.Ky.

Dogs are more than friends, for they become a part of us, offering unconditional love of their own. This is beautiful and touching. Michael

They truly are one of life's most beautiful, loving and loyal creatures. Somehow they do see into our soul, and know our hearts. I have never lived without a dog. A beautiful tribute. Laurie, so appreciate your lovely comment, as when I was little, my mom too had a Lilac bush outside our kitchen window in our backyard. They are a memory of her for me. I had chills reading your comment. Isn't that strange? Thank you sweet friend. Love, Shar

They are such sweet companions...they never judge or stay mad...so forgiving...and all it takes is a little pat on the head, and they are yours! What a sweet dedication to Woman's best friend! ~ Carrie
