At the water's edge I just sit and stare
Can't help but think that life's unfair
It has been a year since the tragedy
When my true love was taken from me.

Every single day that now passes by
Doesn't ease my heartbreak and I cry
A car accident took my soul mate's life
And I was going to be his loving wife .

My whole world collapsed one year ago
The police knocked my door to tell me so
They broke the news, said that he'd died
In his hospital bed I kissed him and cried.

Now only fond memories with me remain
I think of them often to help ease my pain
That magical moment we sat on the sand
He smiled at me and asked for my hand.

I said " I will " and for hours we talked
Then along the shore for miles we walked
Sunsets we'd watch and he'd hold me tight
And moonlit swims on a warm June night.

My friends have been good and supported me
But I can't let go and don't want to be free
I want him to live on in my mind and heart
I know that if I grieve we may drift apart.

A woman who has had this experience will never let him drift from her heart, Tom. Several years after my husband died, I dated a man who drowned while we were swimming across a lake. We had become engaged the day before. I can relate to your poem, Tom, and the image of the woman on the beach does appear to be showing her loneliness. Excellent entry for the contest, my friend. Soup mail coming your way! Hugs, Carolyn

I'm so sorry to hear that tragic news Caroline, and I cannot imagine the pain you must have gone through. The march of time eases the pain but it never leaves you. I know my work was a fictional write but it does happen to people in real life. The only thing you have left is fond memories. Regards. Tom.

Yes, Tom, this is exactly the kind of story I was thinking of when I saw the picture too. Something horrible had taken her love away. Best of luck in the contest, and I was able to get my picture up. Thanks!
