Woe Is the Sea

something grabs my leg

plastic bag churned by the tide

                                 ocean clings for life

Clever haiku Mo, I never liked anything grabbing my leg in the ocean, especially not pollution! Congratulation on your winning placement!

Hello Maureen. This is wonderfully executed in format voice and tone. I very much enjoyed the theme and saddened at the same time of pollution of this wonder. Shame on people. Never a dull moment at sea. Well done

I was in the Caribean years ago when I experienced this, I can only imagine it's far worse now. It entered my mind at the time that the bags tangled in my legs felt like a drowning ocean clinging to be saved, only took a decade or so write ;)

Oh, Maureen - how I have written, talked and cried about pollution. Every time we go to a lake or beach, plastic bags are everywhere and it breaks my heart. So ... I love your haiku for saying what is true and needs to be said. Thank you! Poetry hugs ... CayCay

We write about what means the most to us, what breaks our hearts, thank you CayCay. I think we might be paralyzed by our grief if we didn't have poetry <3 xomo

Brilliant hakiu Maureen, and the ocean will continue to die if we don't start cleaning up now. Tom.

Thank you Tom. Seems I'm too sad to write of the ocean's beauty, all I come up with is woe. xo
