I don't drink or smoke but I have watched while others did so as well as watching while they kicked the habit. It is not for the faint of heart. Dear poets forgive me while my latest poems purge my mind of such things. Thanks

Watching you go through withdrawal Seeing you suffer like your skin crawls Never have I been so proud You are stronger now laying on the ground How do you wonder as you’re in pain But the thunder of your heart is changed You refuse to be a house of ill repute For drink drugs and evil spirits so loose You have kept your word and fight each urge To use again and fly like blue bird Instead you bravely stay on the ground Where flowers grass love at last are found

I admire you for the consolation and courage you give to those who show the withdrawal symptom after kicking off the undesirable addictions. Let them be steadfast in their courageous decision. Powerful writing and a great message, dear Karen.

I can relate, as we used to say back in the day. Here's to reality, neither illusional or delusional. ~ Sober for 54 years, gw

It’s hard to watch. Especially if you’re close to the person.
