With This Ring I Thee Wed

on one knee at the summit of your love i look up. your beauty, your light blinds me. shaking i fear you will say no. my little box in hand  slowly ever so slowly  i open it then close it again quickly i recite these words carefully. before you i was one the first time I saw you only our eyes met, less than a second when i got home that night i told my roommate, " i'm moving out",  "why" he asked me " i met the woman i am going to marry" i answered. before you i was one, our love grew, soon WE became ONE. i am here on one knee "will you marry me" (i wait on one knee for a week? a month? finally i hear something, i think  i do hear something i do) "i do, i will, Yes" you say   i pull out the paper ring from my little box i put it on your finger, tell you  "your ring  is being made, i couldn't wait this is all i have. i made this one myself" i stand,  take my wife in my arms her smile tells me all i need to know she loves her paper ring.

It feels like the last two weeks have been a lot slower than usual. Also I noticed that people who usually frequent with comments no longer do. I think it must be cyclical. Even contest winners do not seem to reciprotate and they used to.

Thank you Jan. I have discovered that when a poem does not draw interest I reconsider the title and it seems to work.

Is there a woman who would reject your proposal, Maurice, with a diamond or a paper ring? Delightful story! Good luck my friend! I enjoyed your fine poem!

A paper ring, that is different and sweet.Reminds me of those days in my early teens and first affections. We used tmake paper rings or wild flower rings. We use to share wooden pieces with the engraved letter of our loved one too.Sweet times of love so pure, and your paper ring gives me this feeling again, about love for what it is and not bombastic things.Aweek,a month,or even aifetime in waiting is worth it if the right on comes along. My two yr old is jumpin on me whilst I write this,so I go.

Also the idea of the paper ring was so cute. I still have this really pretty costume diamond ring I got out of a bubblegum machine for a quarter back in the 60's. I swear it looks as good as those 20 dollar rings you see today!

ahhh, this is super sweet, maurice. I love the way you get inside the mind of the one proposing marriage (I wait... for a week? for a month?) This is what makes a good writer. To express feelings without having to explain them. I would be surprised if this were not on the winners' list.

That is a cool story. Reminds me of my husband and I, before we were engaged, we were at a laundry mat and he got a plastic ring out of the vending machine and proposed with it. It wasn't a perfect fit, but I knew from the moment I met him he was. I loved your story too sweet
