With This Ring I Thee Wed
on one knee at the summit of your love
i look up. your beauty, your light blinds me.
shaking i fear you will say no.
my little box in hand
slowly
ever
so
slowly
i open it
then close it again quickly
i recite these words carefully.
before you i was one
the first time I saw you
only our eyes met, less than a second
when i got home that night i told my roommate,
" i'm moving out", "why" he asked me
" i met the woman i am going to marry" i answered.
before you i was one,
our love grew, soon WE became ONE.
i am here on one knee
"will you marry me"
(i wait on one knee for a week? a month?
finally i hear something, i think
i do hear something
i do)
"i do, i will, Yes" you say
i pull out the paper ring from my little box
i put it on your finger, tell you
"your ring is being made, i couldn't wait
this is all i have. i made this one myself"
i stand, take my wife in my arms
her smile tells me all i need to know
she loves her paper ring.
