With Concern For Poets

Recently, it's come to my attention
something that I'd like to mention.
We'd have no hero if there's no villain.
So I think I'm more than a little willin'

To be called nasty names or take a jab
from anyone who wields a pen to stab.
Idle threats written from a pretender
Need a hero to become our defender.

      *** However ***

A real poet does not use words of abuse,
slanderous words that are of no good use.
It would be a welcome gesture to be kind
so as to have harmony and peace of mind.

A pen is often called a mighty sword
and our pens should be of one accord.
It would be nice, for the sake of unity,
to put an end to the juvenile animosity.

We can all become heroes, in retrospect
If we treat each other with due respect.

Hello, Milton. This is one of my oldest posts on the site, and I'm pleased that you found it and left such an awesome comment. I must ask that you forgive me for not visiting your poetry, but I'm very rarely active. Too many faults lie in many features, but I will pay a debt of thanks by reading you later today. That's a promise.

so very well written with words and truth, along with advice,,, heroes and villains are greatly taken advantage of the idea. We are all heroes in this thing we call life and villains are ones that like to take others down, down, down... Thank you for your visit and your words.

I wholeheartedly agree that a poet's pen should never be dipped into venom! Congratulations for tackling the problem in such a humanistic way, dear Lin! A seven for doing it!

I love this, the sentiments and the style in which you gave the message. I think maybe you read a remark that was made under one of my poems. Did that inspire you?? haha!! You are awesome!

lol... actually, I've been reading lots of comments that have led me to my view of the ingredients in the soup. Some just taste better than others. In any case, thank you for agreeing with me, and many who've made positive comments here...that this should be fun place, where we can share lots of wonderful things.

Lin, well written and expressed, I am with you on this, once things are said it is very difficult to take back even if the writer deletes the comment, it is still floating in cyber space, a wonderful 7

I've heard that some poets can be unkind in their comments, though I've not had the experience. Bravo for your words of wisdom. daver

This was nicely put, Linn, and something I agree with. Poets are always learning and evolving, and constructive criticism is helpful if done with respect. No one should be putting anyone down here as this should be a community that helps you grow as a writer.

A positive message, there are too many times a person is crushed by the weight of someone elses words. We are all here for the enjoyment of what we do, write and entertain. No one should be put down for that. Thanks for the words and friendship Lin.

Lin, I agree with this positive piece. That last part summed up your message very well "We can all become heroes, in retrospect If we treat each other with due respect." Great job! Thanks for sharing:-) Alexis 7
