Wishes for a Spider

In the whole wide world (and even wider), I wish you were the happiest spider, and so, I wish you, sadly, with a sigh, a helpless fly...so you won't cry. You can cover him up with slime, a corrosive, digestive enzyme, that he may very slowly die, and I don't have to hear you cry.

Wow, yesterday, I was just thinking that exact same thing, and scrawled a few notes, so I wouldn't forget. Then, I got distracted with contests. I'm hoping with the next week or so, to have a poem out entitled something like "Dear Miss Muffet". It's uncanny that you read my mind. Maybe, I'm too predictable.

The unbalanced relationship between the spider and fly -a nice metaphor.

I think I was just semi-consciously being funny, but your analysis makes me feel like it was better than I thought it was. I think it's very interesting. The subconscious mind may have a rhyme or reason that the conscious mind is not aware of.

I hadn't really thought too much writing that (probably shows), but yes, we're talking about killing a fly by slow torture, just to avoid a little discomfort in both the narrator and the spider - very unbalanced, and a metaphor, for aspects of society. I can see that.

Spiders, the bug with a beautiful face. Lol. I'm glad we are much larger.

In the Harry Potter books, I seem to remember they had a spider creature that was bigger than people -scary!

Glad you got a smile, Jan. Have you ever read Charlotte's Web? If I remember correctly, in that book they describe what a spider does to a fly, and I'll admit, it isn't pretty, so I can see your stance, with regards to spiders (lol) :-)
