Wished Only To Be Merry

Once a man thought it good to be merry

Thus he decided never to marry

                           He gave parties every night

Having fun with all his might

When he died, none was there, him to bury!

Yes, thank God, I am fine despite certain health problems but nothing serious! We have to think of others for the others provide us the means to become what we wish to be! Thank you my friend, Michael for taking that much of your time to visit my poems!

That is one of life's ironies. The life of the party is basically all alone if he does not have a soul mate!!

There is always something to learn from your words, Demi, even if it be a limerick! He must have had the money to enjoy life, but an honourable send-off is not wealth-related! ~ regards // paul

Paul, my good friend and neighbor, your visits always a delight! As you know whatever we are in life we owe it to society: One cannot be a teacher if he has not students. A doctor if he has no patients. A general if he has no soldiers and so on. We have to contribute to society for society has offered us the chance to become what we wished and we have to contribute to the coming generations for them also to have a chance to become what they wish to be. Thank you, dear Paul for your lovely comment! I appreciate it.

Demetrios, you have penned a sad well written limerick. It was so devastating to see him die alone- Alexis

Well, Alexis, my dear friend, it was his choice! I respect that but, as Solon, an ancient Greek philosopher and sage, 7th-6th century BC, said " We cannot call someone happy before we see the way his life end!" For us sad but who knows what he thought. Myself believe that it is a tragedy to die alone and when one's life ends in tragedy, no matter how much a good time he had before, his life leaves him with a bitter taste! Thank you!

Tragedy behind a Limerick is a new one on me! The conflict within is really intriguing, very innovative, Demetrios.

Welcome my new friend, Michael! Hope you be happy with our poetic family! Life, as you know, my dear friend, is an endless conflict, between joy and sorrow, good and evil, pain and pleasure, life and death, therefore it has its place even in a limerick. Here comedy mingles with tragedy, both of them Greek words, one meaning singing joyous (funny) songs, the other is an ode to a sad event! It may appear innovative but life doesn't think the same. Thank you very much for your gracious visit and constructive comment. Greatly appreciated!

You are right dear WS. Remember my comment about the use of words and the application of them upon our actions! Thank you for your analysis!

I think dearest Anne-Lise, because of your profession you might have witnessed such tragic events. I think it is something that would never wish even to my enemy! Thank you dearest! Hugs!

I think, it matters very much for he will leave with the feeling of emptiness since none will be there to hold his hand. Anyway is just a Limeric, Dr. Upma, but with a strong message. Thank you so much for your gracious visit!
