Wish You Were Here

Life sent us on different paths
Miles and more between us
Different circles different worlds
With time we grew apart

Life experiences incompatible
We simply no longer can relate
Less than nothing left to talk about
Yet I can’t help think back to childhood

When brother and sister we’d hang out
we’d sit and overlook the world
Dreaming up adventuresome escapades
We had so much more in common

Our love for running free
What else could possibly matter
When connecting at our inner core
At times I miss you so that I would ache

Like now when I’m on vacation
Feeling like I’m in a paradise
And there’s so much to explore
I wish so that you were here

Life's changes often bring distance in more ways than one. Well done.

You've struck a chord here, Line, in your painting this sad-but-true picture of the childhood friendship that can nevermore be. Nicely done! And certainly resonates with me. Best wishes, Gershon

This poem took me back to the past as I experienced the exact same thing you wrote about. When we did meet again many years later he was still feeling the way he did back then but I had no feelings for him at all. The person that stood before me was not the same person I loved in high school. The memories were great but my heart was not in it for anything other than friendship now.
