Winter Wolf - Haiku

deer tracks disappear
'neath quieting falling snow -
a lone gray wolf howls

There's such a loneliness quality to this one, the deer is tucked in for the night, a lone wolf howls in the (hopefully!) distance, snow blankets the land. This little haiku paints quite a story. Well done, Susan, enjoy reading your haiku very much today! Hugs ~ John

John, your kind words are like a cup of hot cocoa on a chilled winter's eve, warm and rich. I'm so pleased that my poem brought your imagination to the eerie atmosphere of a lonely and long winter's night. Thank you for your intuitive comments, they are such a joy to receive, my dear friend. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

Wow, what a picture in such few words - the image of both winter at night and the animals. Poor deer... I think this is what you'd call a perfect Haiku <#

Sneha, it is so wonderful to hear from you. Thank you for your lovely response to my Haiku, your generous praise is held in my grateful heart - and don't worry about the deer, its tracks disappeared beneath the falling snow rendering her invisible to the wolf.. :)) Thank you for your gracious words and for your kindness. My warmest wishes to you for a blessed and happy new year.. ~Susan

Haunting... but written with searing truth, as Nature is so much crueler than we romanticists normally portray it. Survival of the fittest, it truly is. Happy Holidays, Susan! ~ Gershon
