Winter Storm
From a distance the smoke rises and swells
Inside, fireplace cinders glow to warm
With evening dew of chilly winter smells
While creatures ready for the winter storm
Near lake shines like polished glass venting steam
Leaves have turned summer green to winter gold
Soon mountain rains will transpose slopes to cream
Waiting for an icy season to unfold
Nuts fall hard to an inhibited ground
From brisk winds that stir limbs in firm breeze
Life scurries when hearing the constant sound
To prepare for this yearly winter freeze
All is cozily wreathed for this winter sleep
Trusting that gelid snows are not too deep
