Notes About The Poem

This poem is about a broken relatship with a girl in Washington D.C., I had 4140.00 to my name, and decided to hitch hike to Losangeles down east coast to atlanta then west from W40.. Highway patrol stopped me in Arizona and told me that every other hitch hiker on these roads had been murdered. I was the only one who survived...

Winter of Your Heart

“Winter of your heart”.

The snows of Winter in your heart.
confusion and illusions in my head.
     Share our life together.
     that’s what you said?
     And even now: my memories
     Can hear,
     your sneer,
icicle’s form in your frozen blond hair
I feel your lies, gloating with your blue eyes.
I stood frozen like a statue, devastated!

     What a surprise.
Burns like a rope that’s flogging my skin..
I felt like a fool, you were so cold,
You get off, on being cruel.
Marry your best friend, your mother said,
Love doesn't last. It won’t if you never try.
You laughed in my face as you sat on your bed.
Frozen in time: I wished I was dead.
Is Love an illusion, that could I not see?
     Who was the real you?

and who was the real me?
     You love to hurt,
Your loves a straight-jacket to control,
I makes you feel good, made me feel shame.
but there’s nothing here.... nothing to gain.
     Memories of floggings,
I can hear my screams, even now.
they enjoyed hurting me; as you do, now..
I was too young I was so small.
You laugh in my face as you sat on your bed.

Frozen in time: I wished I was dead.
Were you from the state trooper said?
Where are you going? where you come from?
     D.C. to L.A.
     hitch hikers all shot dead.
     Sense of darkness
     flood of fear,
     a sense of dread.
Do you have an Idea? That's what he said?
You laugh in my face as you sat on your bed.

Frozen in time: I wished I was dead.
You never read the bible the trooper said?
     Hand on his gun,
     Is that a redneck crime?
     We...ell No, I didn't say.
     You ain't no Christian, boy!
You got the mark of Cain boy!
What, mark of what? I said?
     You’re really a dumb mother-er!
     and soon, you'll be dead.

Last seven hitch-hikers I seen; all bin shot dead.
You lying to me, you has to be dead.
Then he spat Redman on my boots, and
     that’s what he said.
You laugh in my face as you sat on your bed.
Frozen in time: I wished I was dead.
     Share our life together!
that’s what you wrote, that’s what you said.
     long way to go still,
     When you’re hitching a ride.

a wounded heart, sense of dread.
His words still echo in my ears.
     you should be dead, boy,
     you should be dead.
You laugh in my face as you sat on your bed.
Frozen in time: I wished I was dead.
You shot me in the heart.
     Can’t kill me twice,
     I’m already dead.
this is going to hurt me, more than you.

dreams shattered, blood on the mirror,
     cracks in the floor.
Feeling empty, half hollow, half alive.
     Winters coming to L.A.
     Less than a hundred dollars,
     Its three thousand miles away.
and it's a very is a long way, gotta survive.
love doesn’t last your mother said,
marry your best friend that’s what you said,
that , I'd rather be dead.
