Winter Falls


winter falls over the house
    and an old grandma
sits near the kitchen stove with a child
            telling stories, stories 
not from a book but from memories ...
the child shivers and whispers-   the house is cold

This brought back memories of my grandma's house in the dead of winter and how we used to vie for spots in front of the single fireplace that heated a large sitting room...first the front side, then the backside...and then give up our place to another person there.
