Winter

Winter

Black cloud enshroud blue horizon while migrating birds tweet their last goodbye

Arctic winds weigh down bare naked branches watching blinding storms streak by

Above forsaken lodge tower sequoias like sentinels safeguarding an empty citadel

Hungry bison scrapes damp earth for green grass then uncovers a nourishing well

Immaculate summits shed kaleidoscopic colors pondering the splendor of next fall

Snowflake encrusted serpentine rivers inside the path of an imminent frigid squall

Taking agile steps shivering wolves defend lives at stake to outfox predacious gun

Aging leaves tumble toward battered ground envying the sky waiting for the sun

Tis' a brutal time of year. This is a chilly one. What a "cool" line; "Snowflake encrusted serpentine rivers inside the path of an imminent frigid squall" Such descriptive imagery!

Your "Winter" write sounds cold. Hot coffee and cookies to stay warm..............

Hahaha, it does. Actually, I was just trying to describe a different facet of reality during winter season, where some things fade away, and others thrive. Okay Paula, please pass the coffee and the cookies. Yum. Thank you!...ab

Your description of winter supersedes many descriptions I have read recently . You have a unique way of looking at things. Even your poems are always aligned in a unique way. I love the last line on aging leaves. Beautiful Anselmo.

I'm overjoyed by your beautiful comment, Valsa! Thank you. I write the way I sense what the poem should encompass, but even then, my visualizations are not always what gets written on the page. Nevertheless, most times I must accept the outcome. Wishing you and your loved ones a blissful Christmas!...ab

Hi Anselmo! Love this! I'm intrigued by - and really like - the format of the poem. The long lines work really well and could work as lyrics to accompany your piano playing. There's a 'musicality' to it. It's winter on a page. Cheers - Gary

I like all the imagery in this poem. I heard it, smelled it and saw it, as I read it. Three times enjoyed, but still cannot decide on my favorite line! It's beautiful. I am glad to have found it.

Gosh. Thanks for depressing the hell out of me, Anselmo. LOL... Great expression here, and I'm sure glad that I'm only reading about it, instead of seeing it out the front window! Keep smiling, gw

I remember getting stuck downtown on Lake Shore Drive not wearing the right winter outfit; that was some deep freeze experience! Stay indoors, drink hot chocolate and watch something good on TV. Fireplace: FULL BLAST. Make sure Santa's not inside the funnel...Cheer up G.W.!...ab

WOW!!! The entire poem, with all of its metaphors, is a work of art in its own right. In conjunction with your impeccable use of language, the pictures you've included add even more mystique to the vivid and meaningful poem you've crafted.
