Wildwood Daze

WILDWOOD DAZE

WILDWOOD DAZE..

As I ride this clanking some what rocky bus

we know as New Jersey Transit I ponder

my destination, while I joy ride to sunlit beaches

and do wop dreams that can only be WILDWOOD.

I sit here fighting that draining tired feeling that

always tries to steal my sunshine.

I will NOT allow it, for I am on my way to SANCTUARY.

AH' Sweet sanctuary the smell of the boardwalk , beaches laden

with jelly fish and the call of the fudgie wugie man waits for me.

The smell of my childhood vacations, nostalgia flows through

my senses as if I were ten again.

I may be inspired to write a brilliant Shakespearian piece on

my way to Cape May County, who really knows.

What I do know is , I want to run my toes through the glistening

sand , have seaweed wash past me as I yell " AH SEAWEED"

Eat funnel cake and Curly fries slurp down clams and play putt putt

ride the biggest coaster they have all while staying a t a two star

motel from 1964.

Where I can bring back my youth as I forget the crime ridden abode

I call my home.

Breath in salt air , jump through a crashing wave as it washes my troubles

away, if only for a few days

As a footnote.....I wrote this about 4 years ago on my way to Wildwood NJ....On the 2 hour bus ride...lol. Thank you...for reading :)i

Here is the start of my next poem and I think Willow Grove was near Philadelphia. To me, there never was any surprise When it was I who finally would realize That no matter how much I loved her so Fought tooth and nail like we were a foe. This is the start of poem I will now write And even if I had held her real tight She never grew up and would giggle And out of situations she would wiggle. How is that for starters at just after 0500 in the morning? Jim Horn

Interesting write, Debbie.... I absolutely love this poem! It was like being there, while you wrote the poem. I wonder if it made a difference in writing down and expressing what you were feeling ATM, while in motion.... xox~ Linda

Yes it did Linda.... Some how being on the bus and the anticipation of getting there and all the memories that were flooding back made for a perfect environment for writing about it... the feeling just took over.... Thank you so much for reading and for being so weloming !! :) xo

Debbie, Isn't there a place nearby called Cherry Grove that is an amusement park or once was? Seems like there was a song called Wildwood also. Jim Horn

Not sure about the Cherry Grove Park... but yes there was a song in the late 50's 60's called Wildwood Days... thats why I titled Daze...a kind of word play...lol Thanks for reading !! :)

Obviously, this was written before all of the storms and Governor's conflict over bridge traffic. Those were more enjoyable days as indicated by your poem. It would be interesting to see a re-write of this in this day and age four years later. James Thomas Horn under name of jthorn5656.

Thanks James so much for reading. Im not sure how much it would change, Wildwood NJ was always my childhood vacation spot and the smell of the salt air always brings back nostalgia but I must say even at the time I wrote this it had been years since my last visit and on the bus I was writing about my hopes and when I got there it had changed allot which was disappointing it may have changed even more in four years. Thanks again for reading.
