Why is a dream so fragile?
breaking with the dawn,
drying up like water
from a stagnant, fetid pond
Why is a dream made of promise?
floating away like a seed,
vanishing with the daylight
with all deliberate speed
Why does it feel so restful?
in the fragility of a dream
that ends like smoke in the wind.
Was it here or did it seem?
Why can’t a dream just linger?
like a saying in your head
repeating over and over
the same thing that’s been said
Why can’t a dream just last?
throughout sunlight of the day
instead of being the moonlight scene
that flashes and goes away
Why is a dream the impossible?
daring reality
appearing in the midnight sleep
possessing fragility.
