Why I Write

There are so many reasons why I write
With your indulgence, I will give a few
It helps to pass the time, alone at night
And cures my urge to purge my point of view

In metaphors of my life's chills and thrills
I relive times with rhymes about the miles
Sometimes I'll share my fears or tears from spills
But when I'm happy I hand out the smiles

I've seen so much and learned a thing or two
Especially 'bout self inflicted pain
I pass my lessons learned along to you
Perhaps providing shelter when it rains

It builds my confidence, once I am done
But most of all I write because it's fun.

I feel the same as your last two lines. It is so rewarding when you finish and you feel surprised and proud, instead of frustrated and discouraged. It is also fun for me to write at night, learning from poets like you on this site. Merci :)

You and I, sir write for some of the same reasons. where we've been and what we've been through. And Yes! it's fun too. But I have a the bad habit of writing only when I'm inspired.

Thank you, Robert. Believe me, I have a hard time finding inspiration. The will is there, i just can't think of anything I want to write about.

This poem more less explains why I also write poetry, I am quite addicted to it and love the fact that the poetic licence is part of the reason we write. I steal time from work, (we have a Personnel Consultancy) but recently have been feeling a little guilty and try to bounce between the two, trying not to neglect either, a bit like walking the tightrope! This poem makes for excellent reading Daniel! Poetry hugs, Jennifer.

Yes, it is "fun" and sometimes just the perfect outlet for all those human emotions we feel but cannot always put into words verbally but with pen in hand it seems to flow more easily and hopefully by sharing it increases someone's caring and may even help another to say what they were not able without your/our poetry.
