Why Did He Say That

Why did he say anything at all?
I really wish he hadn’t
I spent all year keeping him out
And now he has found his way in
Yeah, he’s cute, but I don’t want to deal with that
So I forced him out of my head
But then he said something
The Monday after prom
As he was unpacking his book bag in History class
“I liked the dress you wore.”
We barely speak
I don’t understand
How could I let this happen?
Let my mind wander to him
Two weeks before school ends
Why did he have to say that?
I really wish I knew
Because maybe if I did
I could get over you.
