Why

Why give me passion
And not bring it to fruition?
Why give me love
And withhold reciprocity?
Why give me voice
A touch above mediocrity
When all I want is to sing?
Why give me words
When they don’t transform?
Why give me dreams
With no hope of a reality?

Why?
Why make me enamored by beauty
When all I see is plain old me?

Questions that need answers
Rebellion is brewing inside me

Why?
Why create me with incessant longing
That will never be quenched
To learn sacrifice?
To suffer?
To pay the price?
To purify?

But all the reasons
Don't satisfy
I’m tired of asking "Why?"
This heart is about to die

Eileen Manassian Ghali

The Answers:

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17

One of my favorite Bible texts. God allows me to throw my little temper tantrum. I am, after all, His child....at times rebellious, but when I'm all cried out...if I let him, He takes me in his arms...and quiets me with his love.

Don't let that heart die... Life does bring out all these questions at times. Beautiful piece of art.

This deep philosophical "Why",this is what I used to carry for a long time , Could be the biggest question for humanity. Not answered yet!It reminds me of this poesie de Vicor Hugo:"Si tu n'as pas rien a me dire, pourquoi venire aupres de moi? pourquoi me faire ce sourire? But We have Omar Khayyam as the best questioner of reasons beyond human creation:He visited a deserted urn making workshop,he said: Koo kooze garo kooze kharo kooze foroosh???& after 1000 years it's still puzzling me!!XOXO MOEIN

Soup writes to tell me that there are two new features, and that "poem of the day" is one of those. Then I look and find that poem of the day is this one. What a great choice they have made. Great poem, and well done on making "Poem of the Day".

Robert, life can sometimes blur our vision. We forget to count the blessings and only focus on our needs. Thanks for understanding the heart of the matter here.

It's a very simple piece, Peter. Nothing that has anything special literary wise. It's just simple words from a struggling heart. I guess it resonates with people who have questions too. Thank you for the visit.

Jake...it's good to see you again after a long time. Thank you for your kind remark. It is a simple piece, but a heartfelt one. I'm sure many can relate. We all have questions. Sometimes we know the answers, but that doesn't stop us from asking. Glad you stopped by.

Yes..I know what you mean..When I first joint poetrysoup..I had written a poem called False Portrait. It was a plea to be loved for who I am,and I let it all out in a very confused poem.I just thought, cried, and since no one was listening that time..I let all my pain in this scribbled confused write..So So I understand what it feels like to let it all out- BetterB-)..So its from bitter to better and from better to healed.I understand you completely.

Sweetie....I read your lovely response. I know in my heart what you say is true...It is, but sometimes you just need to let out all the pain and ask your questions and just rant away. He is a heavenly Father and I a child....Truly a child...in so many ways...I believe He understands. Yes, my dearest Charmaine, sometimes what we want is not what is best, and so we have to be patient and let His will be done. I know this in my mind...my heart won't listen. Thanks for being there for me. I love you.

CONT.. our lives easy sweety..He never said our lives were going to be easy, but He said that if We trust the plan of our lives in His hands,We will find fulfillment.Dear Eileen,I can relate to every word you said.Just keep being who you are,and you will be loved, maybe not in the way you imagine, but in ways you won't.God trusted you with this ability to love,It is a blessing to be warm and loving, and this world will only fulfill a part of our heart, but God will fulfill it all.Sing sweet sister xx

Every time I feel frustrated with past pains ,I get bitter, and I know bitter will make things worse,So that's when I pray to God to help me feel Better instead of Bitter..And how do I feel better Eileen? After I resist God,After I get mad at him,and He remains silent, after I feel hopeless,I try to understand God with this little soul of mine,Many times I find out that I am looking for love, care, affection and God's mission for me was that I ll be a giver of love, care an affection.God doesn't make

Roya ( I like the new name ), Thanks for your visit, this is very similar and I like it as it leaves questions unanswered as does my poem, which is about a working class man who is trying to father a child and cannot, I am trying to show that it is not just women, but men from any background, also go through the mental turmoil when things go wrong...( it is from my feminine side )...

David....it is a lovely poem. I think the pain in it was just too much for me to bear...Now I know why. I only have one daughter. I was satisfied with just her because I didn't want to share my love with another child. Often parents show favoritism. Then I thought I was pregnant and when I found it I wasn't...I cried my heart out. My little girl wanted a sibling, but it was not to be. It is a heartfelt write, beautiful in its sadness. Thanks for the explanation. I will read it again.
