Why?

Just a few hours old and her outlook grim,
Not fully developed her little limbs.
A premature child snatched from her dead mothers womb,
Caused by a drug overdose the doctors presume.

This poor baby child, blind and alone,
Makes you really wonder why this seed was ever sewn.
The mother was a lady of the night with a habit to serve,
Now the baby is born with problems she does not deserve.

Drugs and disease have devastated this child,
Because her mother chose a lifestyle wicked and wild.
The child probably wont make it, least those are the odds,
The doctor said pending a miracle straight from our God.

As hours tick by the little child loses the fight,
And another small soul vanishes into the night.
This story I made up with more truths than of lies,
And the only question I ask, is it really worth it and why?

Oh Ron, that was very moving. Tears flow at the thought of such a thing, yet I know it goes on. My question also is why? Isn't life worth more than a temporary high. God can fill us with a high far beyond any this world can supply, and it is not unhealthy nor does it ever bring you down. It is your choice though. Choose wisely friends. Thank you Ron!

It is an ongoing injustice committed against the unborn daily. Sincerely, Moses

Powerful poem--too often the truth for these tiny babes and sad reality of the life of bad choices of the mothers. Thought provoking question with no real good answers. Keep up the good writing. Karen

This is sad fact that is happening often and not all women are prostitutes. Some women use when pregnant because they have a habit but they are married and living some similance of a normal life that gets worse as the years go on if they don't want to change and get treatment. Keep the creative and magical pen flowing. Thanks for stopping buy and commenting on my poem "Decorate". Sara

This is truly sad write, but it's reality in our world. Thanks for sharing this, Ronald. Even though it's made up it reflects what goes on in hospitals, every day! Peace and love, Audrey Happy New Year!

Sadly, this happens a lot in our world. There is a lot of other stuff for which we could ask "why" I think why is because of human failings but also sometimes things happen which cannot be even blamed on humans. When those things happen, I particularly wish I knew the whys! Thanks for commenting on my Christmasa poem. See ya around. Andrea
