Upon this earth- I wonder why we've come to live and dominate a tiny sphere so lost, unseen within our vast Galactic sky? A primate- we've become most keen among the rest to complicate support of nature- abdicate those laws for our survival's aid. A mini-universe we've made, upon a speck that drifts along replete with wastes that don't belong. Though venturing beyond our space, to soon invade another place, we've built a technical showcase- of which we've taken full command- upon this rock, our borrowed land. The Bible, in 'Creation's tale', presents the reasons we may fail: prevailing on this path without adhering to predestined rules. A smarter primate- with no doubt- but ponder- are we greater fools? There is much to ponder on here Sandra. I remember reading this back in 2020 and have surprised myself now that I didn't comment on it back then. The older I get, the more I take a step back from things and look at the bigger picture in regards to our planet and fellow human beings. I don't always like what I see. Your meter and rhyme help articulate so well the ideas and the questions posed. Cheers - Gary

Sandra, your thought-provoking rhyme invites self-examination on our part while we contemplate the consequences as we “complicate support of nature” and “abdicate those laws for our survival’s aid.” A Fav Poem for me. Congratulations on your excellent win on Mile 26 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon. Your support of my contest has contributed to its success, and for that I am very grateful. Thank you, John, for the nice contest, my placement, and supportive comment. However, "The primates include the most familiar of the placental mammals because they include us, Homo Sapiens. Primates also include familiar animals, such as the chimpanzees, gorillas, and monkeys..." Google

Yes, you raise a most profound point, given our ability to destroy all live above ground in about an hour or so-- and it does seem something has always been broken in human nature, and [I believe] can only be made whole by seeking the Divine. Congrats all the way around, Sandra.

I was debating where this poem should come in the ranking. There are very good ideas here, but to place first you would have needed to have put something unexpected - an interpretation with your own twist. Well done for making a good placement in the top five, though, Sandra... Julia

Thanks for offering this contest, Julia, and for my nice placement. I am pleased that you enjoyed my poem. I thought I had added an unexpected comment/twist in the last two lines, but perhaps it wasn't powerful enough. Anyway, I am happy about the podium win! Thanks, again. Sandra

Wonderful write, Sandra, with suberb metre, rhyme and phrasing, and a message that needs repeating. Congratulations on your placement! The photo above always tickles me, (so just who took that photo of us from deep space?), as it's actually Andromeda ... impossible to take a photo of us in our own galaxy like that, but it proves the point quite well, I think. Blessings! :o) <3

Sandra, who better than you to enter a 'Strict Rhyme and Meter Challenge'! As always, the Queen of Cadence has created a smooth solution to a very challenging puzzle, and woven ecological stewardship and the biblical creation account into it as well. I'm so impressed with this! Best wishes and New Year hugs ~ John

Man, the primate in charge, has created environmental problems that could destroy our planet. Your poem is compelling and I love the question at the end. Indeed, are we "greater fools"? Beautifully written! Best wishes in the contest, Sandra. Hope you are off to a great new year. Hugs, Carolyn
