Who Writes Poetry

Who writes poetry? What is the point? I cannot explain; I am a doer, not a philosopher. She badgers me. Who reads poetry? Isn’t that for old people? I am an old person; but I keep that quiet. I do not spend sixty dollars on hair dye every ten days for nothing. Not counting the three dollar spray my husband puts on my part. To cover up my pure white hair. Seriously, why would anyone waste their time? She has a point; I may not have that much time left. I excuse myself and go home to write.

Hello Caren, Who reads poetry? i do, I have sicne i was in my 20's. I still do. i can not seem to get enough of it. it draws me in. I never think myself old ever and never will. Because that is not me. Hugs.

i don't know how you kept your thoughts to yourself in this case, caren! grrrrrr! no one forces anyone to read poetry (except perhaps an english teacher) and most of us who write it do so mostly for ourselves, so why should anyone object to it?

I think it is good to put down our life, our families life, and what we remember about the past and maybe someone in the future can read it and learn about the past from our point of view. Enjoyed reading your work. Sara

It is an escape for me. It makes me think. Sometimes uplifting, or sad, humorous, or bad.It broadens my mind and captures my imagination. it's a sharing of thoughts and feelings with others. It's what I like to do....

She badgers you about writing poetry??? I'd tell her she needs to get a life...unless she is your principal, of course. I'm old and I love to read and write poetry. I have also let my hair go completely white like my grandfather's and it is beautiful! Well, I've grown a goatee, too, but folks say it makes me look older. It may have to go!

Whoever told you poetry is for old people is wrong.. I've been dabbling with poetry since I was 14 and started really getting back into the writing since lockdown. I'm now 28... I suppose it depends on people's preference to spending time. But poetry is fun, creative and we writers have the joy of sharing what we create. We all enjoy reading your works :-D :-D
