Who Will Secure Our Nights
My
friends
lay
on
the
cold
concrete
floor,
snoring,
Mocking
their
roles
as
watchers
of
the
night
The
cold
wind
whispered
in
my
ear,
as
the
night
skies
above
reached
for
my
sleepy
eyes
I
waited
and
waited,
my
patience
on
the
edge
For
the
dragging
sun
To
dissolve
the
veil
of
darkness
Hanging
about
my
falling
eyes
Unknown
to
me
Beneath
the
hushed
whispers
of
the
wind
Lurked
black
tongues
of
death
Peering
and
longing
With
a
savage
lust
From
the
depths
of
night
The
agents
of
death
sprang
Bringing
death
in
their
dirty
hands
I
tried
to
say
'hey'
But
a
dagger
blow
to
my
head
Overtook
my
words
in
a
rage
of
madness
I
rolled
and
rolled ,
and
rolled
again
Pangs
of
pain
seizing
my
whole
being
As
I
showed
the
world
my
death
From
my
state
I
listened
in
awe
To
the
sounds
of
death
roaring
with
none
to
save
My
sleeping
friends
knew
not
luck
Beside
me
they
lay,
Motionless,
Their
visions
of
tomorrow
crushed
Their
dreams
lost
and
trashed
Their
voices
and
hopes
forever
stilled
When
I
heard
the
boots
of
death
Slowly
melt
away
I
knew
my
soul
had
lived
to
tell
This
is
all
I
had
to
say
Let
us
not
sit
in
our
huts
Tricked
by
the
stillness
of
night
To
mock
our
role
As
watchers
of
our
nights
