Who Was At Your Side

Have you ever walked alone,
Just your shadow by your side;
An emptiness you've never known,
And too obvious to hide.

Ever been without another
As you strolled an empty lane,
With neither friend, nor lover,
As you smiled through the pain.

And come the morning's misty beam
As you carried on--or tried;
Who was lurking in your dream...
And who was at your side?

Very heavy but beautiful write Mel that I think many of us can relate to - you can walk into a crowded room and still feel alone. Good to see you posted. Hugs as ever Ironwoman xxx

Hi Jan. I guess it's time for me to pen something a bit less dark, but this said what I wanted to say, albeit heavily. Hey, I've been in that room, by the way. There is an upside, though. No one notices what you're doing :) Good to hear from you Jan, and thanks for the comment. Keep throwin' down that iron...hugs...Mel

Mel...you could be with someone at your side and still be alone. Deep pain in these lines, but there is beauty was well.

Eileen, you are very astute. Poetry is so revealing. I have writes--as have you, I'm sure--that expose emotions I didn't even know were there. I guess it is both a catharsis, and a window to the soul. Thank you for commenting, my friend. Hugs...Mel

Thanks Tim. I don't mean to depress anyone, but I write what I feel. Tomorrow, it might be sunshine and roses...who knows! Be well, and be happy Tim. Thanks for the visit!
