Who Knew

Years ago, when men wore hats
And women heels instead of flats,
Who knew unsaturated fats
Were somehow kind of healthy?

When TV’s were in black and white
And folks dressed up before a flight,
Who knew that every deep-fried bite
Would need us to be stealthy?

When ice cream cones cost 15 cents
And pronouns didn’t cause offense,
Who knew with rules some could dispense
And wind up smug and wealthy?

Love this, Ilene. Some of those politicians and businessmen should check out your last two lines… they’d realise they’ve been sussed! Terry

Well, Ilene, I was never a "hat" person, but I do sometimes prefer black and white TV over the modern profferings. I love this piece, and agree with Wendy's comments.

Beautifully constructed Ilene, and so very true. I liked wearing heels and dressing up... now that all that fried food has told its toll, I hate dressing up and wearing heels ! Loved your poem, very clever, and right on the point.
