Who Is Listening

The owl's haunting hoot hung in the still night air I pause, look up, feeling the ephemerality of my being Wishing I could see beyond the stars Where eternities are scattered like petals And infinity beckons from afar My spirit trapped in this heavy mortal form Longs for the freedom and peace of eternity Who is listening, my heart murmurs to the owl Who hears me, my choking throat wants to scream But there is only silence In vain I search the branches for this elusive creature Who rebukes from above by his absence But in the silence of this ethereal moment I feel a peace stealthily settle around me And I breathe in this enchanted moment Of silence Knowing I have been answered....
