Who Am I

I am light dawned on an eternity, Promising tomorrows, giving today A traversable feeling growling into conviction— I am the fuel for the flame, A rock for the lame Where do I find home in which to land? Do I seek refuge, or do I seek danger? Am I vulnerable in my strengths? Am I solicitous in my aims? Do I laugh? Do I cry? I am in the air you inhale, frequently skimming your ground, Sometimes I move deafeningly— And at times I float without a sound I have seen the change in your eyes, The moment you grew into a man The moment you sobbed away sin And exposed the evil hand I am light dawned on an eternity, Promising tomorrows, giving today But who am I? Why do you hear me, when others vow I am myth? Why do you listen, when the thunders threaten to deafen you? Why do you doubt, when you have seen my wonders eye to eye? When you have felt my hand on your lips, Quieting your writhing, screaming soul? Who am I? I am the revealer, In hope I am your chief The spark in the dark that galvanizes you The smoke in the air that sooths you Forever and always, I am the best of your heart, And I am free with fires impermeable!

An esoterically charged piece of delicous writing. Its a stunning thought to know we are all Eternal Beings(souls), and we may even have multiple lives :-)

Exceptionally powerful, Laura. I am in awe of the strength and intensity this poem who exudes. "promising tomorrows, giving today" ... definitely worthy of a repeat in this fine piece. It's a great way to describe our everyday attitude towards life ... as if we have tomorrow in our hands, but in truth only living in the moment, SO well stated. It's amazing to me how this could either be from the perspective of someone's soul or God (maybe the lines are blurred). I will simply call you Poet.

Thank you so much. You're so thoughtful in your comments, and I really learn so much from the feedback. Glad to see you've enjoyed this one, and yes, I feel this poem pertains to the best in us, which is why I wanted the voice to have God-like voice - you are very...what's the word...perceptive, there you go. You're very perceptive when it comes to some of the more underlying things. --sometimes a big trial comes along and wakes us up to heightened potential and a more mature heart. This poem has everything to do with growing up, faith and unconditional love. ~Laura

"The moment you sobbed away sin And exposed the evil hand" ... this part made me think more on the spiritual undertones. Losing that childlike innocence, revealing darkness you didn't think was there (can you pinpoint the time of life that that happens, or is it like most people and just gradual?) ... You have a darker mind at times, but this was amazingly rejuvenating.
