White Islands In a Blue Sea
I close my eyes and remember
Lying down, watching clouds,
Where grass tips lightly touch me
With sensations that are somewhere
Between tickling and irritation;
And the air’s heavily sweetened
By fresh growth scented Summer;
And sunshine envelops me
In warming blankets of light.
White islands in a blue sea
Pass in front of me floating.
Sense of position and distance
Are lost in the possibility
Earth’s turned on its side
And only consciousness of gravity
Prevents me stepping forward
And dismisses the notion
I can walk towards the sky.
